Carbon Monoxide Poisoning – How to keep safe!




How do you protect your family (or tennants) from carbon monoxide poisoning?

Another true story ( I really wish it wasn’t ).

In May 2010, Chase and Tyler Robinson died from carbon monoxide poisoning from an unserviced gas heater in their rental property in Queensland. They were only eight and six years old.

What is carbon monoxide?

Carbon monoxide is a toxic, colourless and odourless gas that can come out of many commonly used items.

What are the symptoms of carbon monoxide poising?


How can you protect your family (or tennants) from carbon monoxide poising?

You can help manage the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning in your home by:
NOT bringing outside heating appliances/equipment inside your

Having your fuel burning appliances serviced at least one or two

years by a registered or licensed gas fitter.
Install an audible carbon monoxide alarm in your home.

• Not running generators indoors or in partially-enclosed spaces.

• Ensuring all flues, vents and chimneys are unblocked and

functioning properly.

• Watching for danger signs around your fuel burning appliances


Soot or stains on or around your gas appliance or vents.

Excessive condensation in the room where the appliance

is installed.

Lazy yellow-orange coloured flames, including from your

pilot light.
